Bridging Leadership Lessons from the Workplace and Those Experiences Shaping Today's Youth and Tomorrow's Leaders
As we near the end of 2020 (thank goodness!) people will begin making their New Year resolutions. Instead of wasting money on a gym membership, invest $15 in a book that can help you drive to your purpose. Jon Gordon’s book, One Word That Will Change Your Life, is a short read that is long on impact. It guides you through a process of identifying One Word that will become a driving force for the new year. When you choose the right One Word, it will impact and stretch you in all six dimensions of your life: spiritual, physical, mental, relational, emotional and financial. Typically, when we are setting resolutions for the year we focus on to-do type of goals. In his book Gordon stresses that we should instead focus on TO-BE type of goals. The process used in the book One Word may not be for everyone, but it was very significant to me. My first word was LISTEN and it came to me in such a powerful way that it still provides chills to this day as I recall the event. Listening to those around you, your body, nature, God, family and work, your heart. It was exactly what I needed when I needed it and helped me through tough times. My 2020 word was SOAR and while the process to identify the word seemed a winding and complicated process, in reflection it is so clear. When you find your One Word, you will know it. You will feel the connection to all dimensions of your life. You will know that this One Word will have an impact Beyond Today.
